Use LeapSteps from your AI assistant

Updated

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another assistant that supports connectors, and it can work on your real list: plan your day, add and reschedule tasks, move goal steps along and run your focus timer. You sign in to LeapSteps once and choose Allow. Nothing is archived or deleted until you confirm it in the LeapSteps app.

Before you start

  • A LeapSteps account. Sign up in the app on any of your devices. LeapSteps isn't currently offered in the European Union, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom.
  • The latest version of LeapSteps on your device. You use the app to confirm archive and delete requests and to manage your connections.
  • An assistant that can add a connector by its web address. LeapSteps works with Free and Pro accounts.

Every assistant connects to the same address:

https://leapsteps.ai/mcp

When you connect, a LeapSteps page opens. Sign in the way you do in the app (email and password, an email code, or Google, Apple or Microsoft), check the assistant's name, and choose Allow.

Connect Claude

This works on claude.ai and in the Claude desktop app, and the connection then follows you to Claude on your phone.

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Choose Add custom connector.
  3. Name it LeapSteps, enter https://leapsteps.ai/mcp as the server URL, and choose Add.
  4. Choose Connect, sign in to LeapSteps on the page that opens, and choose Allow.
  5. In a chat, open the + menu, choose Connectors, and make sure LeapSteps is on.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds LeapSteps once under Organization settings, Connectors. Each member then connects with their own LeapSteps account.

Connect ChatGPT

Whether you can add your own connector depends on your ChatGPT plan and your workspace's settings.

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT.
  2. Choose the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
  3. Name it LeapSteps and enter https://leapsteps.ai/mcp under Connection. If ChatGPT asks how people sign in, choose OAuth.
  4. Read the warning, choose I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
  5. Install it. When the LeapSteps page opens, sign in and choose Allow.
  6. In a new chat, type @ and pick LeapSteps.

ChatGPT renames these menus from time to time. If yours look different, look for the option to add an app or connector by its URL.

Connect Cursor

  1. Open ~/.cursor/mcp.json to use LeapSteps in every project, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project, and add this entry:
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "leapsteps": {
          "url": "https://leapsteps.ai/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
  2. In Cursor, open Customize, find leapsteps in your MCP servers and turn it on.
  3. When Cursor asks you to sign in, sign in to LeapSteps on the page that opens and choose Allow.

Another assistant that can add a connector by URL, with sign-in, uses the same address.

What your assistant can do

Your Plan

  • Read Today, Upcoming and Someday as your app shows them, or one list on its own.
  • Find tasks by words in their titles or labels, and read a task with its subtasks and comments.
  • Add tasks, with a due date and time, priority, repeat, reminder, list, labels, goal and subtasks.
  • Change any of those, or move a task to Today or Someday.
  • Finish a task or reopen it. A task your assistant finishes counts as your progress, the same as one you tick off in the app.
  • Add, rename and check off subtasks, and leave a comment on a task.
  • Show "AI working" on a task while it helps, so you can see what it's on.

Your goals

  • Read your goals with their steps, notes and achieved steps, and how many of their linked tasks are done.
  • Rewrite a goal's mid-term step, short-term step or notes.
  • Mark a step done and set the next one, the same as Done on the Goal page.
  • Add a goal's short-term step to your Plan as a task.

Your focus timer

  • See what the Do timer is running and how much time is left.
  • Start Pomo, Focus or Multitask, pause, resume or stop, and change the Focus task or the pinned tasks.

LeapSteps rings at the end of a timer only while the app is open on your device, and reminders come from the app, not from your assistant.

What it can't do

  • Archive or delete anything by itself. It can only ask, as the next section explains.
  • Create lists, labels or goals, change a goal's long-term aim, or mark a goal achieved.
  • Assign tasks to teammates or change who is in a project.
  • Change your settings, your subscription or your account.
  • See other people's personal tasks. On a shared project task, your teammates see the comments it leaves.

Archive and delete wait for your OK

When you ask your assistant to clear out old tasks, it sends LeapSteps a request and nothing changes yet.

  1. LeapSteps shows the request when the app is open on a device that has those tasks, for example "Claude wants to delete 2 tasks", with each task's title.
  2. Choose Archive or Delete to go ahead, or Cancel to keep everything as it is.
  3. Your assistant can check how it went, so you don't have to tell it.

You can restore archived tasks from Archive for 7 days. Deleted tasks can't be restored. A request you don't answer within 24 hours expires, and nothing is removed. Tasks in projects and in flat lists have no Archive, so your assistant can finish those instead, or ask to delete them when they're yours or in a project you own.

When your assistant asks first

Your assistant may ask you before it uses LeapSteps. In Claude, reading your tasks and goals never asks. Adding tasks, finishing or reopening them, comments and "AI working" ask first unless you choose Always allow for that action, under Customize, Connectors, LeapSteps.

Actions that replace or remove something ask every time: changing a task, its subtasks or a goal's steps and notes, anything on the Do timer, and asking to archive or delete tasks. If Claude doesn't ask before changing a task, disconnect LeapSteps and connect it again: Claude keeps the list of actions it got when you connected.

Free and Pro

Reading your tasks and goals works on every plan. Free includes a daily allowance of changes from assistants, and Pro lifts it. When the day's allowance is used, your assistant tells you, nothing more is saved that day, and it starts again the next day. Compare plans.

A connection uses one device. To switch, tap Use this device in Settings > Connected AI apps on the other one.

Disconnect an assistant

  • In LeapSteps: open Settings > Connected AI apps and choose Revoke next to the assistant. This works for every assistant, and it loses access to your account.
  • In Claude: open Customize, Connectors, choose LeapSteps, then Disconnect. To take it off your list, choose Remove from its menu.
  • In ChatGPT: remove LeapSteps from Plugins.
  • In Cursor: delete the leapsteps entry from your mcp.json.

When LeapSteps adds or changes what assistants can do, Claude keeps the list it got when you connected. Disconnect LeapSteps and connect it again to get the new one.

What your assistant sees

Your assistant reads what it needs to answer you, such as task titles, notes, comments and goal steps, and LeapSteps sends nothing on its own. What the assistant receives is handled by the company that makes it, under its own privacy policy. Our Privacy Policy explains what LeapSteps keeps about the assistants you connect.
