For side projects and side businesses

Know exactly what to work on tonight.

You have a day job and something of your own on the side. Write the big goal in Leapsteps, and AI drafts a milestone and a next step for the coming weeks. Turn that into tonight's tasks, then start a focus timer and finish one.

How Leapsteps works, in five steps

Side projects stall in the gaps between sessions.

  • You open the laptop at 9pm and spend half an hour deciding where to start.

By the time you've picked something, you're too tired to do it well.

  • The day job's list always wins.

Its deadlines are louder, so your own project waits for the weekend, and then the next one.

  • The start date keeps sliding.

Without a milestone and a next step, "almost ready" can last a year.

Leapsteps keeps the project's next step and tonight's tasks in one place, so the hour you have goes into the work.

How it works on a side project

These are real screens from the app.

1Set the goal

Write the big goal once. Always know the next step.

Describe what you're building and where you want it to be. AI drafts options for a milestone a few months out and a next step for the coming weeks. Keep one, edit it or write your own.

  • Steer the ideas with an area of focus and a time frame
  • Share a commitment card when you tell people about it
The goal screen in Leapsteps. Long-term goal: Turn my photography into a paid weekend business. Mid-term goal: Book 10 paid shoots by the end of summer. Short-term goal: Put together a portfolio of my 20 best photos.

2Plan the week

Every task shows why it matters.

Tap the goal icon on a task to see the goal it moves forward, down to this week's step. Tap the subtask icon to see the small steps inside it, and tap again to tuck them away. Day-job tasks can live in a list of their own.

  • Say tasks out loud on the commute and get one task for each
  • End a task with "Saturday" and it's due on Saturday
  • Ask AI to split a big task into subtasks
The Plan screen in Leapsteps. The task Edit the 20 portfolio photos is open: its goal (Turn my photography into a paid weekend business, then Book 10 paid shoots by the end of summer, then Put together a portfolio of my 20 best photos) and its three subtasks show under it. Draft the price list for three packages has a robot icon because an AI is working on it.

3Do the work, with AI

Work in turns with your AI.

Pin tonight's tasks to the Multitask timer. When you hand one to your AI assistant, tap its robot pill and it moves to AI working, with a count of how long it's been gone. Keep going on yours and take it back when it's ready.

  • Use whichever AI tool you like. Leapsteps keeps track of the handoff
  • Double-tap a task on your Plan to mark it as AI working

Why a clear next step helps

What goal research has found, and what Leapsteps does with it.

  • McGill University

A concrete plan helps most when the goal matters

In a McGill study, students who planned when and where they'd act reported finishing more of their goals, especially the goals that mattered to them. That's why each task can have a due time and the goal it's for.

  • Harvard Business School

    Progress is the best motivator

Harvard researchers who studied professionals' daily diaries found that making progress on meaningful work, even in small steps, did the most to lift their motivation. That's why finished tasks, achieved steps and your streak stay in view.

  • Stanford University

Small steps beat a distant goal

In a Stanford study, students who aimed for a small goal each session progressed faster than students given one distant goal. That's why every goal in Leapsteps gets a next step you can start this week.

Questions, answered

I keep my notes somewhere else. Do I need to move them?

No. Keep your notes where they are. Leapsteps does a narrower job: it turns the goal into a next step and today's tasks, and keeps a timer on the one you're doing.

Can I keep day-job tasks separate?

Yes. Put them in a list of their own. Free includes up to five lists, and Pro has no limit.

Can a partner or someone I hire join?

Yes, with Pro. Share a project with up to five teammates and assign them tasks. Teammates join free.

Does Leapsteps work offline?

Your tasks, plans and focus timer work without a connection. AI features and voice capture need one.

How much does Pro cost?

Leapsteps is free for one goal on one device. Pro starts with a 7-day free trial, and the app shows the price before you start. Cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends and you won't be charged. Compare Free and Pro.
